How to Save A Life: Gaspar’s Story

Welcome to our first ever online Annual Fundraising Campaign!  


We are proud to announce the launch of our first exclusively online Annual Fundraising Campaign!  The theme of our campaign is “How to Save a Life,” and will celebrate the rescue of six very special Golden Retrievers: Gaspar, Speedy, Penny, Hendrix, Melody, and Pearl.  

Over the next few weeks we will introduce you to each of these Goldens, who have all written poems to tell you their stories, no matter how tragic they may be. Through your "How To Save A Life" donations, we will raise funds to continue rescuing and caring for Goldens that have lost hope.  We’ll even have an extraordinary opportunity to double your donation during Thanksgiving week with a Challenge Grant from Speedy (and a generous longtime supporter).  

We kick off our campaign with the story of Gaspar, who was tragically mistreated in ways that no animal should ever suffer - until he was rescued.  In gratitude, Gaspar asks: “will you help RAGofAZ save other dogs like me who were nearly lost to abuse and neglect? Thank you thank you!!”



GASPAR

I was an animal of no use
And so was treated with abuse
Chains circled my neck like a noose
I knew that I would never get loose

I thought that I would surely die
It would end my fears and cries
I don’t know when or how or why
A gentle face looked in my eyes

Sweetest Golden, come with me
You are so frightened, I can see
It’s safe here, you can eat and sleep
You are rescued now for keeps

Gone are days of pain and strife
Your future here is warm and bright
You will heal ... I’ll be your guide
And that is how you save a life.
